Jasper the Cat 2

Next, let's get to the background. A few times, I had a dream of a cat in water. The cat was happily sitting at the bottom of a pond, or a gentle stream, and I thought the gaze of Jasper goes well with the water image.

This is the back view. The white is simply the mixture of white and varnish.

I mix the background colour to correspond with Jasper's eyes.

Bottom part is added.

Background layer is added.

Let's combine the background with the cat. I kept the picture like this for several days, but I wasn't very happy about it.

So I washed it off.

By soaking in water, the paint comes off easily.
e0044052_08450373.jpg

Well, that's it.
e0044052_08451454.jpg

Let's start all over again. How about this one?
e0044052_08454375.jpg

I attached the ad on a sheet of paper and added some part, and painted over the bottle.
e0044052_08470638.jpg

I also painted the frame.

Now, the placement issue. Lots of light on top?
e0044052_08474615.jpg

Or some light on the bottom, too? I decided to go with this one.
e0044052_08475819.jpg

I start with transparent glass paint (Martha Stewart brand). This paint is specially formulated for glass, so it sticks well.
e0044052_08483530.jpg

A few layers of transparent paint.

Then, some more,,,
e0044052_08490610.jpg

And yet some more layers... I think that there are about 10 layers. As a result, the pattern has quite a thickness. After the pattern, I added background using stencil brush and sponges.
e0044052_08492522.jpg
Still somewhat see-through.
e0044052_08493772.jpg

I added subtle gold and copper layers, too.
e0044052_08495662.jpg

Then finally, solid opaque layer.
e0044052_08502545.jpg

Finished.
e0044052_08512117.jpg

Framed, and that's it! After this, I added extra thickness to the frame to support 2 thick layers of glass and a thin separater between them. I'm clumsy with framing, so I hope that I did a good enough job so that the glass sheets are secure.

I hope that you enjoy the painting, Jasper, Andrea and David/Susan!

Jasper is checking out his portrait.
